Base - used to support the model train layout. It can be plywood, homesote, styrofoam sheet or any other suitable material.

Frame - Wood strips or any other suitable material used to edge the train layout.

Newspaper - Wadded or rolled up, it is used to build up hills in the terrain shell.

Masking or duct tape - Used to hold newspaper in place, and provide a base for the plaster cloth.

Hobby knife - Used to cut and carve various features of the terrain.

Acrylic paints - Diluted with water, it is used to color terrain and rocks.

Scenic Cement - Used to adhere ground foam and ballast to the scene.

Hydrocal - Used to fill in behind rock moldings, fill holes, and other uses on the model train scenery.

Plaster Cloth - Used to form the terrain shell. It comes in a roll, and is easy to use.

Wide Paint Brushes -inexpensive 1/4 inch to 1 inch useful for painting terrain, rocks, and smooth plaster cloth. Ground Foam - Used to simulate vegetation on the diorama.

Ballast - Used to model rocks in the diorama.

Mister - Used to spray scenic cement.

Scenic Sifter - Apply ballast and ground foam

Tacky Glue - Glue lichen and other items to terrain
