Ho Train Layout Plans
|
|

HO scale model railroads layouts are tremendously varied as to size and theme. Since the smallest radius which can be attained is fifteen inches a small train layout can be built on a thirty six inch diameter table. But the only thing which will limit the size of the layout is the amount of space the hobbyist has to devote to it. A basment room or a full basement may be devoted to an HO scale model train layout.
Planning a model train layout is the most important step in layout construction. You must decide many things before actually embarking on the journey of creating a world in miniature with running trains and flashing lights.

There are many good HO scale model train layout books available to purchase. A good layout book will not only have illustrations of the layout detail, it will also have detailed instructions on building the layout and a materials list of the track, underlayment and other things needed to complete the model train layout.
It would also be a good idea to know if you are going to control the trains by remote control or the old fashioned way with zones and switches. In a remote comtrol model train layout each locomotive has a chip which identifies it, allowing it to be controlled at the transformer. In a zone model layout, insulating couplers must be installed, isolating each zone, which is then wired to a multi-switch. The switches are numbered as to the zone they control and must be turned on and shut off as the train enters and leaves the zone.
Do a little research before you start to build your model train layout. Decide on the scale, size, era and types and locations of buildings it will have so the layout can be wired properly. And you must decide on whether it will be remote controlled or traditionally wired so the special considerations of each can be taken into account as the model railroad layout is constructed.
